Ponti Duodo e Barbarigo
Ponti Duodo e Barbarigo

This huge ball-and-tusk Chandelier was blown in Mexico and hangs next to the bridge named after two noble families. Both families gave to Venice fearless warriors: Francesco Duodo fought against the Turks at the famous battle of Lepanto (1571); and an ancestor of the Barbarigo, Arrigo, conquered the Saracens in the ninth century and made a crown for himself with their beards. His victory engendered the family name Barbarigo: barba (beards) and Arrigo.
