"I was thinking about hanging grand chandeliers over the canals
of Venice. I thought, why not go to four countries with great
glass traditions and blow chandeliers with both American glassblowers
and glassmasters from each of the countries?
In the end the chandeliers, made from thousands of individual
parts and representing the work of hundreds of glass blowers,
would be sent to Venice, The Wizard of the Sea, the most mysterious
and secretive city of all." |

| Dale Chihuly realized his ambitious project, Chihuly Over Venice, in 1995
and 1996. Chihuly traveled with his team of glassblowers to glass factories in
Finland,
Ireland,
Mexico ,
Italy , and worked in his studio, the Boathouse, in the
United States. Along with local glassmasters, they
created exciting, new vocabularies of forms.
