Each summer the Marlborough Gallery curates a major outdoor sculpture exhibition in Monte-Carlo, Monaco, on the French Riviera. For the year 2000 Dale Chihuly had the honor of creating a 31 by 13-foot tower of glass for the Monte-Carlo Exhibition of Monumental Sculpture, which ran through October 2000 and which featured works of contemporary American sculpture throughout the city. Chihuly's La Tour de Lumière (The Tower of Light) rose from the center of a stately fountain and was lit internally and externally by a total of 8,800 watts.
