Chihuly Garden & Glass exhibition Groundbreaking Event

The official groundbreaking for the most extensive presentation of Dale Chihuly's artwork was held Tuesday, August 23rd on the 1.5 acre site at Seattle Center. Dale, Leslie and Jackson attended the milestone event along withSeattle Mayor Mike McGinn and Space Needle chairman Jeff Wright, all of whom placed the first shovels into the ground to officially kick-off the construction process. The Chihuly Garden and Glass exhibition, scheduled to openin the spring of 2012, will feature works from many of Chihuly’s most popular series and architectural installations, highlighting the wide breadth and scope of Chihuly’s celebrated career. The project is privately funded byCenter Art LLC, a subsidiary of the Space Needle, and there is no cost to the city of Seattle or to the public. The project has formed partnerships and will continue to work with several local non-profit organizations includingPratt Fine Arts Center, Pilchuck Glass School, ArtsFund, and the Seattle Public Schools to further arts education and arts engagement for youth and adults within the Seattle and Northwest community.

Pismo Gallery, Echt Gallery and Arthur Roger Gallery will each unveil the first full scale shows of Chihuly’s body of white works to include white Venetians, Soft Cylinders and Cylinders. Thepublic had a sneak peak of these works at Imago Gallery in Palms Springs in March as well as Traver Gallery, Tacoma in May.
