Amber Plum Seaform

2015 Chihuly Workshop Studio Edition

Amber Plum Seaform

5 x 10 x 11"

The Amber Plum Seaform is a two-piece composition, with each element resting nimbly in a dexterous configuration of soft waves.

An unusual body wrap of contrasting velvety purple and tawny gold introduces tangible texture and manifests the fluent motion articulated in this organic form. This striking combination of color and form contributes to the sculpture’s dynamic visual effect.

Every year, Chihuly creates four Studio Editions, representing Chihuly’s most distinctive series. As every piece is handblown, your artwork may vary slightly in size, color, and shape. Small blemishes or imperfections in the glass are part of the glass blowing process and add to the individual characteristics of each piece.

Includes a copy of Chihuly Seaforms, a compact book including a DVD and an essay by Davira S. Taragin describing the historical and aesthetic contexts of this series.

“To free glassmaking to this degree, to liberate form to such an extent that it appears to be returning to its own more primitive or organic state—indeed, to be in the process of perpetually evolving within that state—is the real achievement.”

–Art critic Joan Seeman Robinson

Additional Insights

Chihuly’s Seaform series, comprising sculptural yet free-flowing and mobile forms, was an unintentional evolution of his Baskets series. Chihuly discovered that using optic molds in the glassblowing process enhanced an underlying correlation to the sea, resulting in the fluid and complex contours characterized in this series.
