Chartreuse Persian

2013 Chihuly Workshop Studio Edition

Chartreuse Persian

7½ x 11½ x 10½"

The Chartreuse Persian couples Chihuly’s studied understanding of color with his organic sense of form.

The large open element is a transparent citrus green edged with a vibrant red lip wrap, which accentuates the sculpture’s scallops, spines, and swells. A pomegranate-colored element blooms from inside the piece, bringing a brilliant touch of color to this strikingly unique work.

Every year, Chihuly creates four Studio Editions, representing Chihuly’s most distinctive series. As every piece is handblown, your artwork may vary slightly in size, color, and shape. Small blemishes or imperfections in the glass are part of the glass blowing process and add to the individual characteristics of each piece.

Includes the hardcover book Chihuly Persians with images that capture these imaginative forms, and an essay by former museum curator Tina Oldknow that gives historical context to the artist’s Persian series.

Additional Insights

The evocative nature of Chihuly’s Persian series comes partly from Chihuly’s work at the Venini glass workshop outside Venice. It was there that he became inspired by the city’s Byzantine and Near Eastern influences, which can be seen in the dramatic rhythm that pulses through the jewel-toned colors of this compelling series.
