Marigold Persian

2014 Chihuly Workshop Studio Edition

Marigold Persian

8 x 9 x 9"

Resting on a ball foot, with gently fluted edges and fine lines that spiral around the body, the Marigold Persian is a quintessential example of Chihuly’s Persian forms.

The face of the sculpture, cast in bright yellow, centers around the intricate radial patterns of the red body wrap; a blue lip wrap defines the scalloped, softly folded edge.

Every year, Chihuly creates four Studio Editions, representing Chihuly’s most distinctive series. As every piece is handblown, your artwork may vary slightly in size, color, and shape. Small blemishes or imperfections in the glass are part of the glass blowing process and add to the individual characteristics of each piece.

Includes the hardcover book Chihuly Persians with images that capture these imaginative forms, and an essay by former museum curator Tina Oldknow that gives historical context to the artist’s Persian series.

Additional Insights

Spiraling, fluctuating, and pulsing, Chihuly’s Persians cast a spell with their seeming fluidity and complexity.

“Over the years, these assemblages of glass elements have become more and more complex: smaller forms sometimes spill out of larger rondels to create compositions that range up to almost six feet in width,” notes curator Davira S. Taragin.
