Silver and Two Chandeliers, Second State, Artist’s Proof

Silver and Two Chandeliers, Second State, Artist’s Proof

The Second State of Silver and Two Chandeliers showcases Chihuly's experimental sensibility. Set on a matte metallic silver background, this print features a voluminous black Chandelier in front of a delicate robin's egg blue Chandelier.

The woodcuts came from a very exciting time in Chihuly's career. Following the success of his 2000 Exhibition, Chihuly in the Light of Jerusalem, he was approached by Sheraton Hotels to complete a significant commission. To mark the millennium, they wished to add a contemporary artist, Dale Chihuly, to their collection. Since opening in 1982, the Seattle Sheraton Grand Hotel has displayed original artwork – mainly oil paintings from Pacific Northwest artists -- in guest rooms and throughout the hotel. Constantly inventive, Chihuly chose to create woodblock prints of his drawings for this commission. Contrasting Sheraton's collection at the time, Dale Chihuly created nearly 40 woodblock print editions in vibrant and mod-era color palettes.
