Chihuly at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts

The Sun, 2003

The installation of Chihuly’s upcoming exhibition at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is currently underway. On June 8, 2013, the exhibition opens to the public and will be on view until October 20, 2013.

The exhibition presents site-specific installations of The Sun and a Persian Colonnade.

The Sun – Located outside in the museum’s complex, marking the entrance of the museum, is a radiant globe of yellow, red and orange hand-blown glass elements.

Persian Colonnade – As you ascend the stairs into the museum, the Persian Colonnade welcomes you into the exhibition space. Chihuly began the Persians series in 1986 while experimenting with new forms. Originally, he displayed Persians in pedestal compositions, often with smaller shapes nested in larger pieces. Now, working with architectural frameworks, he mounts larger forms to walls and suspends them as overhead compositions.

Other artwork on view will include ChandeliersMille Fiori platform and a Macchia Forest.

This is the second Chihuly exhibition in Montreal. In 1986, Chihuly: A Decade of Glass was on view at Musée des Arts Décoratifs de Montréal.
