Chihuly Workshop Announces Newest Print

True Blue

Chihuly Workshop announces the release of its newest print, True Blue.

In 1977, Chihuly began a lifelong pursuit of organic and asymmetrical forms, using fire, gravity, and centrifugal force to help shape his work. Inspired by a collection of Northwest Coast Indian baskets, Chihuly introduced the Basket series at an exhibition with the Seattle Art Museum that same year.

True Blue, by Dale Chihuly joins the artists’ expressive drawing style and his lifelong pursuit of organic forms with the collaborative process of traditional printmaking. Three layers of lithography define the Basket with red and yellow-green on a beautiful blue intaglio background. Added acrylic paint in red delineates the single asymmetrical Basket and maize-colored dots highlight the center. The end result is a strong print celebrating Chihuly’s renowned Basketform as he continues his artistic dialogue both in glass and works on paper. True Blue is a four-color traditional intaglio/lithograph with additional handwork, signed by Chihuly in paint and numbered in pencil.
