Blues Duet

Chihuly Workshop announces the release of its newest print, Blues Duet.

While creating the Black series in 2006, Chihuly began using a blowtorch to darken the background of his drawings for a series he called the Burned Drawings. Like in the Black series sculptures, Chihuly used black to emphasize color, line and form in the Burned Drawings.

Similarly, Chihuly’s first intaglio print for 2013, Blues Duet, has a layered, charcoal-black background accentuating two cobalt Ikebana. The addition of handwork defines one of the edges of the Ikebanabase in a metallic pearl-blue while a swirling line of sapphire delineates its volume. From each Ikebanabase, turquoise stems radiate upward where the background begins to fade into a rich golden-brown.

Blues Duet is signed by the artist in copper acrylic paint and numbered in pencil.
