Why does Chihuly work with a team?

Chihuly first witnessed the team approach to glassblowing at the Venini Glass factory in Murano, Italy in 1968. Though the factory used teams to produce functional objects, Chihuly saw the potential for teamwork to revolutionize his approach to his work. As in many other artists’ studios, Chihuly orchestrates a group of glassblowers and assistants. This intense and involved style of teamwork has enabled Chihuly to create sculptural glass on a monumental scale that would be impossible without a large team.
