Ikebana Light Drawing, 2019, 42 x 32" Inquire
Light and color become one
While traveling through Europe as a young man, Chihuly marveled at the beauty of stained-glass windows. He was captivated by the power that glass and light give to each other. Uniting light and color, Light Drawings are painted on clear acrylic panels and lit from within, allowing Chihuly to create compositions that are translucent and luminous.

Sweeping, spontaneous color
Chihuly’s Light Drawings are pieces created with grand, sweeping gestures and spontaneous movement. Chihuly applies layer upon layer of color, creating artwork that takes on a whole new life once lit.
“Can a work be too colorful? I don’t know if something can be too colorful. Color is one of the greatest properties of glass and is more intense in glass than any other material.”
