In 2022, Chihuly and Sir Paul Smith unveiled Paul Curates: Chihuly at Albermarle Street, an exhibition of Chihuly’s Studio Edition artwork hand-selected by the beloved English designer. The exhibition highlighted the longstanding friendship of these two celebrated creators and their shared aesthetic.
Now, this friendship has brought Chihuly’s artwork to Paris for the first time since his exhibition at Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Palais du Louvre nearly four decades ago. Paul Curates: Chihuly once again features a selection of Chihuly artworks curated by Paul; however, this exhibition includes both Studio Edition and original artwork installed both indoors and outdoors at his private showroom in the Marais district.
Like their first exhibition, Paul Curates: Chihuly celebrates the two men’s shared interest in collecting, and a mutual admiration of one another’s aesthetics and uninhibited use of color. The idea to present collaborative exhibitions was first suggested by Leslie Chihuly, President and CEO of Chihuly Studio, and quickly embraced by both creatives.
“When Leslie suggested this concept of creating conversation between my work and Paul’s,” said Chihuly of the 2022 exhibition, “I was excited by the prospect of showing my work in his shop, surrounded by his curated environments.” For Smith, the exhibition was an opportunity to “. . . reflect our joint love of color.”
On view until May 2 by appointment only at the Paul Smith private showroom, the exhibition will move to the Rue de Grenelle location from May 3 onward and feature only the Studio Edition artworks. To view Paul’s selection of Studio Edition work, visit PaulSmith.com.
