The Aquarium Room

The Aquarium Room

Chihuly’s interest in water and the sea led naturally to an interest in aquariums. Early sketches for The Aquarium Room at The Boathouse date back to 1999. For two years, he and his team of glassblowers worked with a local aquarium company to create the site-specific installation, Boathouse Aquarium (2001). Holding approximately 1,250 gallons of salt-water, the tank is filled with white flower forms by Chihuly and an array of tropical fish, many of which come from South Pacific waters.
