The Northwest Room

The Northwest Room

One of the most significant spaces at The Boathouse, The Northwest Room showcases some of the personal collections that have influenced Chihuly's work including Native American woven baskets, trade blankets, and Edward S. Curtis photogravure prints.

Children's Books and Chalkware

Chihuly collects many objects that are nostalgic of his childhood. Displayed in the restrooms located within the Northwest Room are his collection of children’s books and carnival chalkware. Made of plaster of paris, chalkware was used as carnival prizes from the early-to-mid 20th century. Although cast from molds, each piece is unique and painted differently. Chihuly has hundreds in his larger collection, some of which you can also see at The Bar at Chihuly Garden and Glass in Seattle.
