The Italo Room

The Italo Room

The guest quarters in The Boathouse are named after artist Italo Scanga (1932–2001), Chihuly’s mentor and close friend. The two first met in 1967 after Italo gave a lecture at the Rhode Island School of Design. The artists became lifelong friends and referred to each other as brothers. When Italo would visit Seattle, he would stay in this room designed by Chihuly for his use. Throughout The Boathouse, you will also find artworks by Italo that are part of Chihuly’s art collection.
